Chalapathi Raju Kalidindi’s vision always was to build a house that could be decorated with the books, paintings, and antiques he has collected over a period of three decades. His travel to more than 50 countries has helped him to collect and read a large number of books on architecture, history, philosophy, economics and government.
Palace Architecture and Interiors
RajKamal Palace was designed by architect Madhusudan Perur based on the vision communicated by the owner. The main theme that runs throughout the Palace is its neoclassical features and interiors. Neo-classical architecture and interiors are characterized by grandeur, simplicity of geometric forms, Greek—especially Doric - Roman detail (such as arches)...
The Palace Gardens
The Palace gardens were designed by landscape architect Naveen Penuganti with the overall guidance from the owner. The Gardens were based on raised English and European formal garden styles with sandstone planter boxes. Architect Vinod Savalam contributed to additional features such as the cobblestone driveway.
Palace Library
The library in the living area was built using the neoclassical
style with Greek columns and a pediment. Other book cabinets in the living room and
bedrooms were specially designed for the rooms.
Almost all its books are with leather bound and large portion of the books is
accented with 22 carat gold. Its collection includes antique books, western and
Indian classics...
Paintings
Many paintings in the Palace consist of original impressionist floral paintings from the late 19th century and the early 20th century. There are also reproductions of historical paintings. One of them is a painting of “Signing of the Constitution of the United States” by Howard Chandler Christy.Others include original paintings of the US capitol building and the Lincoln Memorial.
Mantel Clocks
There are several working antique mantel clocks in the Palace, which is unique in India. Each clock is at least 100 years old. One of the clocks in the living room is more than 250 years old, which was made before the French Revolution in 1789. Other clocks are from the mid to the late 19 century France.
